What is your role at Wellshire?
I am the handbell director. Wellshire currently has one handbell ensemble, the Celebration Ringers, open to High School teens and adults of all ages.
Why did you choose to become Wellshire’s Handbell Director?
I became the Handbell Director at Wellshire in 2001 after the previous director left and was not replaced. The bells sat in the closet for about a year. Then, several ringers got together and rang small ensemble music on two or three occasions. Because there were several people who expressed an interest in ringing, I got “talked into” becoming the director on a volunteer basis. It was a big challenge as I have no formal music training.
What is the greatest thing about being a musician at Wellshire?
Wellshire is known for its strong music program. I am honored to be able to be a part of the music at Wellshire. I love being able to contribute to the worship experience of the congregation. The comments of appreciation from members of the congregation are greatly uplifting.
What is the biggest opportunity for our Wellshire community?
I would love to see our handbell program expand to include children and youth.
Where do you find inspiration?
My biggest source of inspiration comes from my bell ringers. We are like a family and support each other through times of joy as well as times of struggle and pain.
What are the things that make you happiest?
I LOVE RINGING HANDBELLS!! I also enjoy the outdoors and living in Colorado. I love to garden, hike, ski, etc.
When you’re not at Wellshire, where are you likely to be?
At work as a pharmacist for the Mental Health Center of Denver.
What is one thing that very few people know about you?
I also ring in an auditioned community handbell ensemble, Denver Bronze.
Falls City, Nebraska
We have two grown children: Sarah and Stephen, both living in the Denver area, and a dog, Finn.
I am a pharmacist by profession and graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Pharmacy in Omaha, Nebraska.
